By Kristen Sanchez, Macaroni KID South St Louis April 5, 2024

Hey there, fellow moms! Spring is in the air, and you know what that means – it's time to channel our inner Marie Kondo and dive into some serious spring cleaning! But fret not, because I've got five tips to make decluttering and donating a breeze, all while keeping that happy mom vibe intact.

1.  Embrace the Power of Purging with Purpose:

Let's face it, clutter can dampen even the sunniest of dispositions. So, grab those trash bags and declutter like nobody's watching! But here's the kicker: do it with purpose. Ask yourself, "Does this item have a purpose, a plan and a place? Or, does it simply make you happy" If not, it's time to bid it farewell with gratitude. Trust me, the sense of liberation is worth it!

2.  Make a Donation Station Your BFF:

Now, what do you do with all those gently-used items that no longer serve you? Cue the donation station! Create a designated spot in your home for items destined for donation. At Our house, it's a large bin in our basement Clothes the kids have outgrown, toys they've lost interest in, and household items you no longer need – they can all find new homes with someone who'll appreciate them.
Once the bin is full, off to donation. Remember, one mom's clutter is another mom's treasure!

3.  Research Donation Options and Spread the Love:

Here's where the fun begins! Research local charities, shelters, and thrift stores where you can donate your goodies. Whether it's a women's shelter in need of clothing or a pet rescue looking for blankets and towels, there's no shortage of places eager to receive your donations. Bonus points if you involve the kiddos in choosing where to donate – it's a lesson in kindness they won't soon forget.

4.  Turn Decluttering into a Family Affair:

Who says spring cleaning has to be a solo gig? Get the whole family involved and turn decluttering into a fun family activity. Assign tasks, crank up the music, and make a game out of it. Challenge the kids to find the most items to donate or reward them with a special treat for their hard work. Remember, teamwork makes the dream work – and a cleaner house, too!

5.  Celebrate Your Decluttering Triumphs:

You did it, mama! Take a moment to bask in the glory of your decluttering triumphs. Revel in the newfound space, the organized closets, and the clutter-free countertops. Treat yourself to a well-deserved reward – whether it's a bubble bath, a fancy coffee, or simply some quiet time to savor the moment. You've earned it!

So there you have it, fellow moms – five tips to tackle spring cleaning with a smile on your face and joy in your heart. Embrace the power of purging, make friends with your donation station, research donation options, turn decluttering into a family affair, and celebrate your decluttering triumphs like the rockstar mom you are.
